A Moment of Recognition — For All of Us
As many of you may have heard, Obesity Matters has been awarded the prestigious 2025 United Nations Inter-Agency Task Force Award (UNIATF). It’s a moment that still feels surreal, and one that belongs to every single person in this community.
When we came together to create Obesity Matters, we didn’t set out to win awards. We set out to build community. We wanted to create a space where people living with obesity could feel seen, supported, informed, and connected. A place where health was about empowerment, not shame. A place where community meant everything.
This UN recognition is a beautiful validation of that mission. It affirms that the work we are doing together matters — that your voices matter, your experiences matter, and your health journey matters. But above all, it confirms something we’ve known from day one: we are stronger when we stand together.
At the same time, we know the work isn’t done. This award doesn’t mean the road ahead gets easier or that the challenges we face disappear. What it does mean is that the world is paying attention — to our stories, to our advocacy, and to the importance of compassionate support and care for people living with obesity.
This moment is not just an achievement for our organization. It is a recognition of you — of our collective courage, vulnerability, and resilience. It’s a reminder that while our struggles may be shared, so too are our strengths, our insights, and our determination to build a better future for all of us.
Thank you for being part of this community. Thank you for trusting us, for showing up, and for contributing to a movement that is so much bigger than any one person. This honour is ours — together.
And we’re just getting started.
Until next time,
Rachel
