Since we launched in early March, we have brought together a community of like-minded people looking for support, understanding and empathy, along with tools and resources aimed at healing the mind, body and spirit.
Obesity has been a prominent part of the conversation during the COVID-19 pandemic, so it is more important than ever to push that conversation in a positive direction. One of our goals is to change the dialogue around obesity and overweight and to end fat shaming, for good. Size does not determine health, and we are determined to spread that message by changing how people think about obesity and overweight.
We want to inspire happiness for all by creating a community of enlightened and connected people who nourish, love and accept their bodies and can advocate for public policy and environmental changes that enable wellbeing.
People living with obesity are too often denied access to proper health care and tools that are so crucial to their wellbeing. We want to create a space where these topics can be addressed with total understanding and empathy.
Because YOU matter, we want to bring people together through community events, online forums, and evidence-based resources so we can support each other by discussing our issues and celebrating our successes.
We are Obesity Matters because we have experienced the challenges of living with obesity and overweight. So, we know what matters. It does not matter what other people think you are, or what they think you are capable of, or what they think your lifestyle is like. What does matter is that together we can overcome these barriers and learn to love and accept ourselves for who we are.
If we can do that, we are one step closer to the acceptance and inclusion of millions of people in larger bodies.
